DESCRIPTION

A two-day conference focused on developing an understanding of the practice of visual music, its definition, related creative and perceptual considerations, current trends, technological innovation, and possible future directions.

The event will take place on Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th of August 2011 and will include paper sessions, roundtable discussions, and creative works presentations.

YouTube Competition: Contest sends winners to Cannes Creativity Festival

YouTube will send the winners of its Good Work Contest for 60-second clips to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Video clips must be be 60 seconds or less and about the environment, social justice and civil rights or arts and culture or animal protection. Videos must contain original, legal and appropriate material.

Participants must be over 18 and have a YouTube account. Only one clip per person can be entered. The deadline is midnight on May 9, 2011. Entrants then have five days to gather votes (likes) for their entries.

Five winners will be announced on May 21st, each winner will receive a full delegate pass to the Cannes Lions Festival on June 19 - 25, plus travel and accommodation expenses. Winning clips will be screened at the Festival.

Beirut documentary film festival competition open

Beirut International Documentary Festival
The Beirut International Documentary Festival called Docudays invites filmmakers, producers and distributors from all over the world to submit their latest productions by July 1, 2011.

The 10th edition of Docudays is accepting entries for the 2011 edition.

Short, medium and feature-length documentaries made after January 1, 2009 are now being accepted for consideration. Film screeners must be available on DVD for review and submitted along with the application.

The festival competition has two sections, one for entries from 22 Pan-Arab countries and the second is for international entries.

Arab Photographers: Photography contest open for entries

Arab photographers, who are based in the region, are invited to apply for Shabab Ayyam Photography Competition.

Organizers Ayyam Gallery hope the initiative will support new artistic talent in the Middle East.

The contest, open to photographers born in or after 1980, requires a proposal for a solo exhibition and 12 photographs via email or in CD form.

The 15 finalists will be featured in an exhibit at The Ayyam Art Center in Dubai on September 13.

The first place winner will be awarded USD$6,500, while USD$2,500 and USD$1,000 prizes will be given to second and third place finalists, respectively.

The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2011. Proposals can be submitted in English or Arabic.

EWP - Is Your Play the FACE OF THE FUTURE?

East West Players is pleased to announce its latest Playwriting
Competition: FACE OF THE FUTURE.

This time around we are particularly looking for plays that explore the
reality of multicultural America from an Asian American perspective. For
instance, subject matter might include (but need not be limited to)
biracial or multiracial identity, clashes or collaborations between
cultures, or international/transnational storylines.

Prizes:
First Place: $5000
Second Place: $2500
Third Place: $1000

The First, Second and Third Place winners will all receive readings by
EWP. All winners will be considered for workshop and/or production; EWP
must have the first option to produce.

It forms part of the larger FirstWorks Festival (www.first-works.org), a multi dimensional performing arts festival that celebrates cultural "firsts" as avenues for strengthening community and creativity.

New Town (LA): Open Call for Media Arts

Open Call for Media Arts

NewTown will appropriate a two block length of South Lake Street in Pasadena and an area in Los Angeles that remains to be determined, each for one night presentations of a ”Pop-up” festival of media arts. There will be:

outdoor, sit-down space(s) for single screen projections with sound;
rear-projection sites in empty store fronts, silent;
space may also be available for media installations.

Late May, 2011
Proposal Deadline:

April 8, 2011. Submissions postmarked after that date will not be considered. Early submission is encouraged.

Punto y Raya Festival explores the ultimate synthesis of the form·movement duality in different spheres of human endeavour. Due to the simplicity of its criteria, it seeks to reveal the limitations and achievements of our representation systems using abstraction's prime matter.

This entry call is addressed to audiovisual pieces built up entirely from dots and lines. No representation whatsoever, just dots and lines as ends in themselves!

:: GENERAL RULES

: The films must be made entirely with dots and lines avoiding representation.

:You can use any kind of illustration, optic and animation techniques. From the pen to the stylus, from the analogical·dot to the digital·pixel.
