The Arts Council for Long Beach (Arts Council) is seeking proposals from artists and curators for temporary exhibitions and site-specific installations for a new visual art gallery in downtown Long Beach. This is an open call to professional artists and curators residing in the Greater Southern California region. Long Beach residents are encouraged to apply.

To encourage and celebrate resourcefulness in the city, EXCHANGE RADICAL MOMENTS! Live Art Festival is awarding a prize for the most innovative re-use of an urban object or area for a new purpose.
East West Players is pleased to announce its latest Playwrighting
Competition: FACE OF THE FUTURE. This time around we are particularly
looking for plays that explore the reality of multicultural America from
an Asian American perspective. For instance, subject matter might
include (but need not be limited to) biracial or multiracial identity,
clashes or collaborations between cultures, or
international/transnational storylines.
The prizes are as follows:
$5000 First Place
$2500 Second Place
$1000 Third Place
The First, Second and Third Place winners will all receive readings by
EWP. All winners will be considered for workshop and/or production; EWP
must have the first option to produce.
Submission period: May 2, 2011 to August 31, 2011
Throughout history, creative works by women have been devalued,
dismissed, and even buried. In an attempt to keep women’s work
visible, Craftswoman House seeks artworks that make a direct reference
to, or were inspired by, second-wave feminist art for inclusion in a
November-December 2011 group exhibition. We are also seeking video and
performance works for an event in early December.
Please send images or links of up to five works, or a link to video or
performance, a short statement on the relationship between your work
and second-wave feminist art, and a CV to craftswomanhouse@gmail.com

Artists are invited to apply for the 11th edition of the ARTISTS OF TODAY Online Art Annual Of Contemporary Art. The competition is open to all artists and is judged solely by visuals submitted online or attachment. All accepted works that pass the screening will entry into competition and will be exhibited 12 months beginning with the date of the inclusion.

The screening is conducted by submitting Jpeg [.JPG] image files versions of the submitted works inline or attachment. Submitters whose entries pass the screening will be notified by e-mail indicating that the works are included in exhibition.

Writers can participate in a contest on the green economy.
The International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) is holding writing contest. Articles will be part of a new magazine to be launched late 2011.
The contest is open to young scholars from all over the world, graduate students, PhD students or postdocs. Scholars from developing countries are particularly encouraged to participate.
Five winners to be awarded a cash prizes and their work will be featured in the first issue of the magazine. First place will be awarded US$500, second place US$200 and third through fifth place receive US$100 each.
The "My Country" photo contest encourages photographers worldwide to submit one or multiple photographs of a country of their choosing.
Asia-based stock photo company, Photokore, sponsors the contest. The objective is to submit a photo that best captures the essence of a country that holds a special place in your heart, whether the photographer lives there or has just visited. The word 'My' is subjective and can be interpreted differently based on the participant's personal preference.
There are three categories: people, landscapes and objects.
Amateur and professional photographers can participate. The contest is open to all ages but participants under 18 must have parental consent.
Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery announces a Juried Art Competition for the month of August with the theme “Seasons”. A Group exhibition of the top five finalists will be held online at the Light Space & Time Art Gallery for the month of September 2011. The theme is Seasons, you decide, so send us your best “Seasons” art now!
Awards will be for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, honorable mention and special recognition . All winners will be selected, announced and featured on the Light Space & Time website on September 1, 2011. Thereafter, the artworks will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives with links to the artist’s websites. Extensive worldwide publicity for the winners.

String Theory would like for you to create a video for their upcoming show
at the Ford Amphitheatre on Sept. 15, 2011.

project and to download their song "Caviar" which you'll use for your video.
Anything goes...use old footage, archive footage, abstract
imagery...whatever you like.
Whichever video is picked will be projected in front of a live audience with
live music by String Theory at the show.
String Theory is a hybrid ensemble featuring original music, dance, video
installations and large scale sonic sculpture. Their 200 foot Curve Harp
will be featured at the Ford show in September.
