CALL FOR PERFORMERS

Boston Court Performing Arts Center seeks local applicants for its 2010 "ARTTalk."

"ARTTalk" is scheduled to take place in the Marjorie Branson Performance Space at Boston Court March 20th from 11:00am until 5:00pm.

Participants will be allotted one half hour to perform a piece that focuses on Communication. All performances must be acoustical in nature. Boston Court will provide general lighting and no rehearsal time is allotted.

Previous performance genres include poetry, storytelling, singing, and theatrical performances. Participants will be provided a small stipend.

The Brea Art Gallery is now calling for entries through January 25, 2010 to present next year's Made In California exhibit. This very popular show will be the 25th annual juried exhibition and will run from March 27 – May 7, 2010. The prospectus is available online or at the Brea Art Gallery.

Open Call for the 12th Annual Shikishi Exhibition
at the George J. Doizaki Gallery

The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC) is currently
accepting submissions for the 12th Annual Shikishi Exhibition opening on
January 3, 2010 and would like to invite all of the diverse voices in
our community to participate.

Shikishi paper boards have been used in Japan since the twelfth century
for painting and writing poetry. Today, inscribed shikishi are given as
a gift to mark a memorable or special occasion. In 1998, Hirokazu
Kosaka, JACCC's Artistic Director, fused traditional and contemporary
notions of the shikishi by asking over 500 people to celebrate the New
Year by expressing themselves using the boards.

NEW LIFE COPENHAGEN is an art festival and social experiment organized by the artist-run community Wooloo.org.

NEW LIFE COPENHAGEN takes place in thousands of private homes during the United Nations Climate Change Conference from December 7th to 18th, 2009.

NEW LIFE COPENHAGEN does not involve any actual exhibitions or physical works of art. Instead, we invite our participants to live together - and to live in new ways.

PARTICIPATE OR DIE

This is a call for works of any length for trombone and electronics for
performance by trombonist Haim Avitsur in Montreal.

New York trombonist Haim Avitsur (see biography below) will be visiting
Montreal in February 2010 to give a workshop and concert at Concordia
University’s music department (electroacoustic studies). The concert
will take place on February 17th at the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall and
a workshop on composing for instruments and electronics is scheduled on
the previous day.

We invite compositions of any length for trombone and electronics for
the concert. The electronics part may be fixed (“tape”) or live, in
which case the composer is to perform the electronics part. You may
submit completed pieces or shorter etude-like compositions.

Call for Audio-Visual work

NOVARS Research Centre for Electroacoustic Composition, Performance and
Sound Art, University of Manchester, UK

Deadline: January 15 2010 (receipt)

MANTIS (Manchester Theatre in Sound) is seeking audio-visual work for MANTIS
SCREENING, a viewing/listening space as part of the larger MANTIS Festival
at the University of Manchester's Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall [February 20 -
21 2010].

We are calling for fixed media audio-visual work, with a maximum duration of
15 minutes.

Audio of the work may be stereo or 5.1-channels.

Only one work per composer will be considered. Work must have been composed
after 2004.
