Photography prize open to students age 18 or older

Photography student age 18 or older can participate in a contest.

The Mountainview, California-based search giant has launched its first Google Photography Prize.

There are 10 categories: Me, Food, Travel, Fashion, Action, Street, Sport, Night, Sound/Silence, Point of View.

Each participant can send up to eight shots. Entrants can share their work on Google+ and the finalists will see their work displayed in the Saatchi Gallery, London for two months in 2012.

The exhibition will coincide with `Out of Focus: Photography' by photographers such as Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin, JH Engstrom and Katy Grannan.

The finalists will also win a trip to London to attend the exhibition opening.

UK - student photography - call for submissions

Student photographers in the U.K. can participate in a contest.

The 2012 Fujifilm Student Photography Awards are open to photography or graphic design students age 16 or over at U.K.-based universities.

This year's theme is `Extreme' with students being briefed to capture the meaning of that word in a single image.

The main sponsor for the 2012 Awards is Metroprint, who will provide the overall winner with a professionally produced portfolio with a 12-month course of mentoring.

Other prizes include Fujifilm film, a trophy and the title `Fujifilm Student Photographer of the Year 2012'. Up to 30 runners-up will each receive 10 rolls of Fujifilm film and the college that supplies the most entries will collect a gift certificate for Fujifilm film.

Video contest on sustainable development open

Citizens of EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey or Greenland born in 1991, 1992 or 1993 can enter a video contest.

The European Environment Agency seeks entries for its Generation '92 contest, an opportunity for youth from EEA member or cooperating countries to share their vision for sustainable living in 20 years' time.

The winners will be invited to take part in an event on sustainable development in Copenhagen. The best entries will receive a total of EU€6,000 (about US$7,987) in cash prizes. There will be an additional prize for the public's favourite – the Buzz Prize. All shortlisted entries will be open for the public's vote via social media.

iPhone Photography Awards open

iPhone photographers worldwide can enter a contest to win an iPad.

The iPhone Photography Awards is the first and longest-running competition recognizing iPhone photography since 2007.

One photographer of the year will receive an iPad and runners-up from each of the 14 categories will be publicized on the IPPA online gallery.

All images must be taken with an iPhone or an iTouch. The photos should not be altered in PhotoShop or any desktop image processing program, but the use of iPhone apps is allowed.

Entry fees range from US$3.75 for one photo to US$27.50 for 10 photos. Submit entries by March 31.

Queens Media Arts Development call for artists, deadline March 17

QMAD, Queens Media Arts Development, invites artists to submit works for
consideration in the upcoming Performance Art Festival, ITINERANT. This
year's program focuses on works that treat notions of intimacy,
self-reflection, and introspection. Artists working in contemporary
performance art, visual performance art, and transmedia (sound, video and
emerging technologies) are encouraged to apply.

ITINERANT 2012 will be presented the following dates in these venues:
Brooklyn on Friday, March 30, 8 – 11 pm at Grace Exhibition Space

Art in Odd Places (AiOP) invites citizens from all walks of life and from
anywhere in this world to propose projects for its eighth installment in New
York City. Taking place from October 5–15, 2012, along 14th Street from
Avenue C to the Hudson River in New York City, AiOP 2012: MODEL will
proclaim 14th Street as the largest and longest runway in the world. MODEL
intends to take pedestrians off their predictable paths and move them into a
new awareness of their everyday landscape. Citizens are encouraged to shape
the unnoticed planes of the 14th Street geography, imagining the
possibilities of what could be.

Mystery Build $10k Art Challenge

Mystery Build is an art challenge focused on ingenuity and resourcefulness. Create an original work of art using only the materials provided in a Mystery Build Kit, and upload photos or videos of your creation to compete for $10,000 in cash prizes. Mystery Build Kits are available at www.mysterybuild.com. The specific materials in the Kit will be unknown to you at the time of purchase, but you can expect to find some common sculpting materials like wood, metal, clay, and fiber. Call for Art: Aquarium of the Pacific - Urban Ocean Festival Art Exhibit

Deadline: Friday, March 30 by 6:00 p.m.

Call for Art: The Aquarium of the Pacific is accepting images via JPEG format to be juried for its upcoming Urban Ocean Festival event. All submitted art pieces should fall under the theme of "Our Urban Ocean," which may include artwork about our ports, human uses of the ocean (i.e. scuba diving, water sports, beach activities), marine life affected by the urban ocean, or ocean pollution. The theme of your work should be how you see the urbanized coast and ocean and what they mean to you. To be considered, art MUST be appropriate for a family audience.
