El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument will be presenting an art exhibit entitled Sacred Memories: Cross-Cultural Celebrations of Day of the Dead from October 24 to November 28, 2010. Sacred Memories will explore the world's rituals that venerate the departed including Dia de los Muertos, first observed by the indigenous people of Latin America, China's Qingming, Korea's Chuseok, and other rituals practiced in United States, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.
Artists are asked to submit for consideration two and three-dimensional work (including ofrendas/altars) that examines rituals honoring the deceased and/or pays tribute to departed ancestors. Interactive and interpretive works will be particularly encouraged.

Fabrik Magazine and The Factory Gallery in Los Angeles are offering artists the opportunity to gain valuable exposure for their work both in print, online and in exhibition through this competition.
METRO EXPO LINE: Farmdale Station
New public art opportunity.
Artists are invited to submit qualifications for art opportunities at Farmdale Station on the Metro Expo Line, which is currently under construction. This is an ideal opportunity for both emerging and established artists with a background in any two-dimensional media and a desire to expand their studio practice to include public art. Previous public art experience is not a requirement for this project.

The SZPILMAN AWARD is awarded to works that exist only for a moment or a short period of time. The purpose of the award is to promote such works whose forms consist of ephemeral situations.
The SZPILMAN AWARD is awarded annually.
The prize winner receives the Jackpot Stipendium.
This scholarship consists of three parts:
A challenge cup, 10 days of accommodation in Cimochowizna (Poland), and a sum of money in cash.
The amount of money is dynamic. SZPILMAN is raising money parallel to the competition. The prize winner receives the money that is raised until September 30, 2010. The current score may be checked here.

Ashkal Alwan calls for proposals for a documentary film that captures the cultural scene and artistic production developed in the Arab region over the course of the last decade. The goal of this project is to educate and to attract attention and interest in contemporary artistic and cultural production, as well as current cultural theoretical and policy-related debates in the MENA region, with a particular focus on Egypt, Palestine, and Lebanon.
